Text on the Organ of Calheta Church

Last May I wrote a brief article about the organ of Santa Catarina’s Church in the vila of Calheta, S. Jorge Island, that was published in the May-June (n.º 380) issue of The Organ magazine.

This is a small-size cabinet organ, built by Portuguese organ builder António Xavier Machado e Cerveira in 1790, and probably delivered after his death in 1828. The instrument has one manual with 5 registers activated by the left hand and other 5 by the right hand with no pipes en chamade. It was restored by master organ-builder Dinarte Machado in the early 1990s.
