Text on Music, Earthquakes and Famine
This year begun with the publication of a new article on the seventeenth century soundscape of Angra do Heroísmo, a beautiful city in Terceira Island, Azores.
The article is titled “The year of 1647, that is said of the famine and earthquakes: the seismic activity impact on Angra’s soundscape”. It is basically a study centred on the historical descriptions of the seismic crises that affected Terceira Island during the seventeenth century and its impact in the city’s soundscape. During these periods many religious services were held in the numerous churches and hermitages of Angra. They mostly comprised the singing of litanies and the organisation of daily processions throughout the city.
The work is available at the Humanities Commons.
