ORFEUS
The Tridentine Reform and the Music in the silence of the cloister
The Monastery of São Bento de Cástris
The Council of Trent would mark decisively in the modern Catholic liturgy, and liturgical books are a key part of this liturgy. In religious communities Liturgy marked the daily life and the Divine Office works joining prayer, reading, music and song. ORFEUS Project intents to study the books for Divine Office used in the Choir by the Cistercians nuns of the monastery of S. Bento de Cástris (Évora) , as witness the orientations of Trent. Indeed , the importance devoted to music by the Cistercian Order made that in their monasteries circulated liturgical books of varied nature, complexified over time , in constant relation with the historical time and its cultural , mental and religious matrix. The Project bets in a multidisciplinary perspective , joining researchers from various universities , institutions and formations , particularly in the areas of History ( Modern period ), Cistercian architecture , Paleography and Codicology , besides the Music and Musicology
