New Book Chapter published in Routledge book

A new book chapter has just been published on a Routledge-published studies book on historical soundscapes. Soundscapes of the Early Modern Hispanophone and Lusophone Worlds was edited by Victor Sierra Matute and is part of the Routledge Critical Junctures in Global Early Modernities series.

I was glad to contribute with chapter 6 for this book, titled “Towards the Soundscape of a Developing Azorean Port-Town in the Late Sixteenth Century: Angra (Terceira Island) in the 1590s”. This chapter gives an overview of Angra do Heroísmo’s soundscape in the late 16th century taking as a visual aid the town’s chart published in Linschoten’s book of journeys and the accounts of the Azorean 16th- and 17th-century historians. It walks through the town’s religious soundscape, the construction works and the daily works of its people.

Many thanks to Dr. Matute for the opportunity of including this study in his edited book. The accepted manuscript version can be freely downloaded at my university’s repository or at KC Works (links below).
