Music Editions performed by Grupo Vocal Olisipo at Concert Cycle in Évora

Several editions I prepared for Grupo Vocal Olisipo’s 2023 concert programme were presented in this year’s edition of the Concert Cycle “A Quaresma na Escola de Música da Sé de Évora, promoted in Évora by the Eborae Mvsica association.

Grupo Vocal Olisipo (directed by Armando Possante) presented the Missa pro Defunctis a 6 by Filipe de Magalhães (c.1571-1652) and the piece Glorious Night – In memoriam Ivan Moody by Christopher Bochmann in an hommage to the recently-departed British composer and musicologist Ivan Moody, who lived in Portugal for many decades.

As part of the concert programme there was several works I edited for the group last year, such as António Pinheiro’s (c.1550-1617) psalm De profundis clamavi. This has been now a five-year collaboration with the group which has brought very interesting results.

The concert cycle “A Quaresma na Escola de Música da Sé de Évora” (Lent in the Évora Cathedral Music School) is promoted by Eborae Mvsica, this year being the 22nd edition, focusing on the vast amount of sacred polyphony for the Lent, Holy Week, and pro defunctis liturgy of composers associated with Évora Cathedral such as Filipe de Magalhães, Manuel Cardoso, and Duarte Lobo.
