Text on Musical Heritage in 17th-Century Angra Cathedral

An article was published a while ago (most precisely, on the second semester of 2019) on the Portuguese journal Herança – Revista de História, Património e Cultura on musical heritage in early seventeenth-century Angra Cathedral, Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island, Azores.

The article (in Portuguese) titled “Musical heritage in Angra Cathedral in the seventeenth century: three books of sacred vocal polyphony and their possible context” is my second attempt at the three books of polyphony in the Cathedral musical archive of Portuguese composers Duarte Lobo and Fr. Manuel Cardoso. The two books of Magnificat and a book of masses are an unusual and – I would dare say – unique presence in the Azorean archipelago which prompted me, soon after their identification back in 2012, to write and study their possible origin and provenance.

Seven years after their discovery, I again examine possible contexts of origin and circulation based on the research and archival study done in the last three years.
