Text on Vicente Lusitano’s Heu me Domine

I have recently publish a brief text on Vicente Lusitano’s chromatic motet Heu me Domine in the online edition of the Portuguesese music magazine Glosas, edited by Movimento Patrimonial pela Música Portuguesa.

This text focuses on an analytical perspective of Lusitano’s piece and its commons characteristics with the writing of “classical” renaissance motets. If one goes beyond the chromaticism and the whole dissonant sound some interesting features of structure, imitation, and motivic manipulation arise which make Lusitano one of the finest Portuguese Renaissance composers. The motet was also edited for the Polyphonia series of Edições MPMP (N.º 16).

The text (in Portuguese) is available at Glosas online and on my Humanities Commons profile.
